Space Program

A Space Program is a tool that architects and educational planners use to define and quantify the list of primary usable spaces needed within a building to achieve the operational objectives of its users.  The list of spaces represented within are the “puzzle pieces” that must be fit together to form the new building design.  In addition to the primary spaces identified, a “grossing factor” of 40% is added to the total area to account for corridors, utility rooms, mechanical space, toilet rooms and other ancillary spaces that make up any educational facility.  As the building design progresses, the actual area of each space and the total area of the building will evolve, change and take on finer definition.
