Hi! My name is Emmy, and I'm the School Counselor at Murray Park/ Quest Elementary School. I am so excited to begin my first year as a School Counselor, and I couldn't think of anywhere I'd rather do it than right here in Ripon! Prior to coming to MP/Q, I was an Academic Advisor for four years at UW Oshkosh, working with college students. I also completed my Masters in Professional Counseling at UW Oshkosh during that time, as I knew I wanted to pursue a career working with younger children.

I am ecstatic to be here at MP/Q this year, and I cannot wait to begin putting my many plans for the Counseling Program into action. This year, I will be providing Classroom Guidance to students twice per month. We will cover a variety of topics during this time, including things like: Respect, Responsibility, Leadership, Growth Mindset, Kindness, Friendships, Conflict Resolution, Bullying, Diversity, Empathy, The Power of Words, Honesty, Self-Esteem, and much more! In addition to Classroom Guidance, I will also provide other counseling services, as needed. These services include things like 1:1 Specialized Counseling and Small Group Counseling. Groups may include things like: Self-Esteem, Friendship, Positive Relationships, Healthy Habits, Growth Mindset, Divorce, Grief/ Loss, Social Skills, and more!

A big push for our entire school this year is the idea of having a Growth Mindset. Dr. Carol Dweck has done extensive research on this topic, and our school-wide initiative will be rooted in her work. Essentially, a Growth Mindset means students believe they can get better at anything if they're willing to put the work in! You can follow this link to learn more about Dr. Dweck’s work: http://mindsetonline.com/whatisit/about/

Additionally, we will continue to promote our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, through teaching The Tiger Way: Respect, Responsibility, and Leadership. You can learn more about the PBIS program here: http://www.pbis.org/

Feel free to send me an email, call, or stop by anytime! I know it’s going to be a great year!
