Who is a School Psychologist and what do they do?
A School Psychologist is specifically trained in the psychology of learning and child development as well as social-emotional adjustment. School psychologists are knowledgeable in data-based decision making, consultation and collaboration, child development, school organization, prevention, intervention, mental health, learning styles, behavior, research, and program evaluation. School psychologists use these skills while working with school personnel, parents, and students to help make education as effective as possible. Through consultation, evaluation, intervention, prevention, and research and planning school psychologists use problem solving techniques to improve the educational outcomes for individual students, whole classes, schools, and districts. School psychologists are certified and/or licensed by the state and may also be certified by the National School Psychology Certification Board (NSPCB).
